It is always a surprise to find real ancient masks. These

Suddenly, a big surprise. Two extraordinary Green Men, both
originating from Roman times! |

Walking to the frontside I learned that this small temple
used to be the Temple of Jupiter. Right in front of the entrance this sarcophague,
probably belonging to a Croate King, manifesting himself as a Green Man. The meaning is
significant. At the moment of death he takes refuge in a pre-Christian Deity... |

 I looked up and saw....two of the most ancient, beautiful e.g. impressive
Green Men I have ever seen |

They breath great perfection. It means that these Green
Men, coming from pre-Roman times were very high in esteem. One feels the love with which
they have been carved. May they still enjoy a long life! |

reality these displays are more golden-looking |
The ceiling of the Temple is covered with theater masks .
By giving them a background of foliage, the masks were transformed into Green Men. LINK Myra (Turkey). This ceiling is the only fully
intact one of all Roman remains. It is a real treasure. |

As said above these masks later became Green Men. Examples
of it one can find in the LINK Capitolinum Museum
in Rome, where they are carved on almost all (some 80 or so!) pillars |

At last: almost forgotten next to a small market this
fountain with four Green Men. The bright sunlight is not always helping one to get good
pictures! |
