THE OTHER SANTIAGO

Alonso or Alfonso de Fonseca was a Renaissance Humanist and   sympathisized f.i. with the ideas of Erasmus von Rotterdam. He founded the University of Santiago. A spicy detail: both appreciated the Green Man. Erasmus had him printed in his books and here in the Refectory of the current University they are carved as capitals all over the place. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find a place in Santiago without Green Men!......

Impressive! Take your time on your Camino to contemplate images like these. If possible with great awareness and in silence. Entire (new) worlds will open themselves for you. F.i. there are not only Green Man masks here but also the "horns of abundance" and the Holy Grail

And this in endless variations....it means that this theme - of the Green Man with the Grail - at that time was taken very seriously i.e. the center of spiritual, religious and...academic effort. You don't have to search for the Grail, it is everywhere, it never ever was lost...
